Opened on 31/07/1961, it quickly became one of the reference airports for northern Italy. Opened on 31/07/1961, it quickly became one of the leading airports in northern Italy. A complex improvement and expansion project, designed by architect Gian Paolo Mar, was completed in 2002. Also, in 2017, the arrivals/departures area was enlarged (including restaurants and stores).
